Purpose of Role
Helps the Laboratory Manager in the efficient running of the Laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
- Carries out checks inhouse and with external Laboratories to ensure accuracy of work done by analysts.
- Checks all Laboratory equipment to ensure that they work satisfactorily.
- Prepares and standardises various references solutions used in the Laboratory.
- Orders laboratory replacement equipment and water treatment consumables to maintain sufficient stock levels.
- Interprets Laboratory analysis and alerts plant personnel for changes to operating procedures.
- Checks that all reagents prepared in the laboratory are of the required strength.
- Participates in the calculation of the ERC factors.
- Prepares certificates of analysis for all local and export sugar.
- Monitors, interprets and trends boiler water analyses and recommends changes to dosing rates to minimise outages.
- Monitors material usage to ensure minimisation of wastage.
- Writes and reviews Standard Operating Procedures.
- Takes part in Laboratory audits by SMRI of RSA and implement recommendations.
- Participates in department SHE Meetings and huddles.
- Participates in Food Safety initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Chemistry or Biology.
- At least 3 years working experience as a Senior Analyst.
- 3 years working experience in a Sugar Milling Industry.
- Ability to manage R&D Contracts.
- Good computer knowledge in LIMS and SAP.
