Purpose of the role
To implement promotive and preventive health programs in Triangle and Mwenezana Estates and supervise subordinates within the Department.
Responsibilities
- Plan and allocate duties to subordinates and monitors the
- Analyses and respond to communicable disease
- Carries out routine Environmental Health and hygiene premises inspections, compiles and circulates reports to relevant authorities for corrective actions as a requirement for public health practice.
- Supervise the implementation of industrial and residential pest control
- Coordinate TB control programme in Triangle through notification of diagnosed patients, conducting mobile and static TB review clinics, TB treatment monitoring (DOTS), defaulters and contact tracing.
- Monitor refuse storage, collection, transportation and proper disposal in
- Conduct drinking water quality monitoring through collection and analysis of bacteriological and chemical priority indicators in Triangle.
- Routinely monitor cleanliness and hygiene of food handlers at their work places and educates them on hygiene standards required of them.
- Initiate operational budgets and analyses monthly expenditure for discussion with Public Health Officer.
- Conduct communicable disease surveillance, detects and reports outbreaks and respond to real-time upsurges and epidemics
- Coordinate the carrying out of epidemic disease investigations contact tracing and notifications as per legal requirement.
- Provide relevant information and consolidated feedback on public health to relevant stakeholders.
- Conduct Public health and hygiene education on communicable disease prevention and control.
- Appraise and counsel subordinates who directly reports to him or
- Coordinate environmental and surface decontamination
- Implement measures for malaria prevention and control.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma/ BSc in Environmental/ Public
- Must be registered and have a valid practicing certificate from the Environmental Health Practitioners Council.
- Class 3 or 4 Driver’s license
- At least one year working as an Environmental Health Technician in the Ministry of Health and Child Care or a recognized organization
- Sound understanding of public health legislation
- Excellent communication and report writing skills. Ability to interact with a team of Section Managers.
